“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10
There are moments in life when the heart feels too heavy to pray.
Sometimes it may be because of suffering, family struggles, sickness, loneliness, disappointment, or anxiety. At such times, many people feel guilty because they cannot “pray properly.” But the truth is this: even silence before God is prayer.
Prayer is not always about saying many words. Sometimes prayer is simply sitting quietly in the presence of the Lord and allowing Him to see the pain we carry. God does not wait for perfect words; He listens to the sighs of the heart.
When the heart is heavy, begin with something simple:
“Lord, I am here.”
Even that is enough.
Open the Bible slowly, read one verse, and remain with it. Do not rush. Let the Word of God rest gently in your heart. A single verse can become light for the whole day.
At times, repeating the Holy Name of Jesus softly can bring peace:
Jesus, be with me.
This simple prayer can calm the mind and open the soul to grace.
In moments of pain, remember that prayer is not about feeling strong. It is about staying close to God even in weakness. The Lord is nearest to us when our hearts are broken.
So whenever your heart feels heavy, do not run away from prayer. Come to God as you are — tired, silent, wounded, or confused. His presence itself becomes healing.
Short Prayer
Lord Jesus, when my heart feels heavy and words fail me, teach me to rest in Your presence. Let Your peace calm my mind and strengthen my soul. Amen.
